OUR MISSION:
The mission of Senior Mutt Match is to promote the adoption of older dogs from shelters, rescues and humane societies in San Diego. We want to educate the San Diego community about the wonderful benefits of adopting an older dog. It is a win-win situation since many amazing older dogs will be adopted and just as many citizens will have their lives enhanced from animal companionship. If that wasn't reason enough, there are many research studies that show improved physical and mental health in those people who have pets in their lives.
Older dogs are calmer, usually housetrained, obedient and require less strenuous exercise. They are most content when sitting by the side of their new family member. Many times, older shelter dogs were adopted as puppies and were loyal, perfect pets only to be left at a shelter because they are now "too old". Unfortunately, many potential adopters tend to adopt puppies or younger dogs; sometimes, this is done without realizing the time commitment that is involved. Although we believe that all dogs deserve loving homes, Senior Mutt Match aims to promote the adoption of senior dogs by: posting information about available senior dogs from shelters, rescues and humane societies on our website, raising funds to help non-profit rescue groups pay for the care of senior dogs, planning adoption events for senior dogs and creating ongoing promotional and marketing campaigns to help find homes for older dogs.
Thank you for taking the time to view this website and educate yourself on the benefits of adopting an older dog. There are many loving older animals in San Diego shelters that need forever homes. Please check our website often to see the adorable dogs waiting for homes and consider adopting an olderdog. Pet adoption is an important decision and a life-long commitment. When you are ready to adopt, do your research, contact one of the hardworking animal rescue agencies and find your perfect furry friend. You won't regret it!
WHO WE ARE:
Senior Mutt Match is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization that promotes the adoption of older dogs, raises funds to help non-profits with the care of senior dogs and educates the public about the wonderful attributes of senior dogs. One hundred percent of all donations go towards helping find homes for senior dogs. The idea for Senior Mutt Match came from a volunteer at a local animal shelter who fell in love with a ten-year-old German Shepherd named Piper. She was a wonderful dog that was constantly overlooked for adoption. The volunteer was brokenhearted that this affectionate, intelligent and loyal dog, who loved to play ball and go for walks, was living out her senior years in a shelter. Unfortunately, this volunteer's home was filled to capacity with two dogs, two cats and a newborn son. So Senior Mutt Match was created to educate the public about why senior dogs are a tremendous asset to any family and to also provide extra promotion for senior dogs in local shelters. (By the way, that great German Shepherd found an extremely loving new home of her own!)

Although this project is starting out small, the dreams are big. You can help by telling others about this site, emailing us with comments and/or ideas or donating services or goods that could help promote the senior mutts (paper, printing etc); most importantly, you can adopt a senior mutt of your own!
In loving memory of Chance...
