Name: Rupert
Breed/Mix:German Shepherd mix
Sex/Age: Neutered male/ 5-6 years young
Personality/History:My name is Rupert and I was found wandering on the freeway. I was brought to the local animal shelter where the nice people at ARRF found me and placed me in a foster home. I am a German Shepherd mix approximately 5-6 years old. I currently weigh 70 pounds, but my ideal weight would be around 80 pounds. Although I’m big, I am very gentle and love being with people. I love to play, but I am very well mannered. I am great with children (ages 4 and 6 in my foster home), and other dogs. I love going on long walks and walk very nicely on my leash. I am housetrained and know my basic commands. I am looking for the perfect forever home. If you are looking for a new addition to the family and would like to be showered with lots of wet kisses, please contact my foster parents Bruce or Lisa at 858-676-0289 or email brucelisa@san.rr.com .

Name: Neva
Breed/Mix: Corgi mix
Sex/Age: Spayed female/ 8 years young
Personality/History:Neva, formerly nicknamed Chubbs by her rescuers, was rescued from a local shelter. This dog was one the shelter workers' favorites because of her sweet personality. Neva is a Corgi mix, is approximately 8 years old, and now weighs about 27 lbs. Sort of a very small Labrador retriever on really short legs, and the most incredible lavender blue eyes. Neva wasn't very well taken care of before she ended up at the shelter. When she first arrived she was 10 pounds overweight, her toenails weren't clipped and she could barely walk. This girl has had a bad start but fortunately she is now living in foster care, eating a healthy/conservative diet, and getting walked daily.  She mostly just walks and trots, but recently has broken into a short joyous canters! Neva has come a long way from her former "Chubbs" self. There are single steps up and down in Neva's foster home which she can now navigate with ease, but more than a couple wide steps would be difficult for her to do. Neva still needs to be lifted into and out of cars, and she cannot get onto her humans bed unless you pick her up and put her on the bed.  Neva greets and loves everyone, and she would be a great therapy dog...she adores being hugged and kissed. This dog is a mellow, very quiet dog who hardly barks, even when there is a ton of noise or other dogs are sounding off. Her foster mom can even bring her to work because she is so well mannered. Neva like to give kisses and is gentle with small children. She totally ignores cats and even the most skittish cats have quickly become comfortable with her. Neva is a little hard of hearing, but can hear some, and her foster mom has been using hand signals with her.  This dog is perfect for those who need a very quiet dog, who like to travel, who like to take daily strolls, and want a dog who stays close off leash. Neva loves to travel and will head for the nearest car door ever hopeful for a ride. Neva went camping with her foster mom, and was the camp's favorite dog because she has such good camp manners. Neva is spayed, up to date on her shots, and is ready for her forever home. She is house trained, gets along with other dogs and very good with cats, is low-energy, and would make a very attentive and loving companion. Just a very unflappable sweet dog. Name: Bert
Breed/Mix: Labrador Retriever/ Shepherd mix
Sex/Age:Male/ 7 years young
Personality/History: Hello, I'm Bert. About six years ago I found that the Baja Animal Sanctuary was a real nice place to live. I just went there on my own -- I saw the place, and decided to move in. I was pretty young back then. I guess I could have put myself up for 'adoption' but I kinda liked this place, it was comfortable, the food is pretty good, and the people are nice to me. But now they say I'm getting on in years (I'm only about 7) and it's high time I found a "real" home where people will let me sleep indoors and on soft blankets. Even though I still have a lot of spunk in me, it gets too cold out here at night for my old bones. I recently had two surgeries to correct a problem with one of my eyes, but they say I'm "good to go" now. They also say I'm a real good dog, because I get along well with all the others. I don't like cats though. No cats for me, please. No siree.

Name: Sondra
Breed/Mix: Beagle/Shepherd mix
Sex/Age: Female/ Senior
Personality/History:Hello, my name is Sondra.. I am really a nice middle aged gal.. But I am very playful, so if I were not honest, you would not know my age.... I weigh less than 40 lbs and I would be a good companion for an older couple. I am not keen on children-- they sort of get on my nerves if you know what I mean.. But if you have grand kids come visit, I would be happy to go to another room for a rest!!! I like it here at the sanctuary but I think after 4 plus years of residency, I w ould like to find a permanent home. Contact Sandra at 619-231-6960 or sandradsimpson@cox.com

Name: Topo
Breed/Mix: Border Collie mix
Sex/Age: Male/ 7 years young
Personality/History:Meet "Topo", a 7 year old border collie / lab X. You'd never know Topo is 7, he sure doesn't act like it! He's very energetic and playful, a very fun dog for someone with an active lifestyle. He'd be great for walking, hiking, runing... Topo's quite good with other dogs... NO cats... he's probably too active for small kids but older kids would be OK. He's healthy and happy, and his current weight is 50 lbs. He's been neutered and is current on his vaccines. Name: Concha
Breed/Mix: Lab/Shepherd mix
Sex/Age: Female/ 7 years young
Personality/History:Say hello to Concha, one of our senior residents of the Santuary. Concha is about 7 years young. She is happy and playful and likes to do the bunny hop when you walk into her corral and she'll do the same tricks for you at home! She was found by some residents in Rosarito and brought to our veterinarian's office in town, and he in turn bought her to us. She is a really sweet girl that likes her food (can you tell?) but would like to be put on a diet when she has a new family . OK, well maybe she won't WANT to but she should :) Concha is spayed, and current on her shots, and she is very good with cats and kids and other dogs.... Name: Lucy Liu
Breed/Mix: Sharpie
Sex/Age: Female/ 10 years young
Personality/History:I was rescued from the shelter the day before they were going to put me down. My previous owner passed away. I have had a hard life, but I promise I won't hold it against you! Instead I am going to nuzzle you with my snout and ask you to scratch my head, please? I am a gentle 10 year old girl who is looking for a new home. I'm very relaxed and mellow, a laid back, low maintenance girl and if you are looking for a couch potato, I am your dog! I love napping in my bed or soaking up the sun on the porch. I am also house trained and will be very respectful of your stuff. Don't get me wrong, I do also enjoy going for walks and meeting neighborhood dogs and people along the way... so many smells to sniff! If you don't mind my quiet snoring, I'll make you a great companion! Please contact my foster mom, Bethany at davidowski@hotmail.com  or 760.696.2833 I have a small adoption donation since I am rescue. Come visit me soon!!!

Name: Gizmo
Breed/Mix: Boston Terrier
Sex/Age: Male/ 8 years young
Personality/History: Gizmo is a happy little boy who is a clown and loves absolutely everyone. This little guy has so much fun playing with other dogs. As small as can be, but he has no idea that is so, and gets right into the middle of all the action. Gizmo weighed in at a whopping 9 pounds when he first came into care, and has gained just one pound, but is eating up a storm. Due to his hemivertebrae and arthritis in a back hip, we don't want him to gain too much weight. Gizmo's physical problems don't hamper him in the least when it comes to action and he twirls and plays like crazy. His hemivertebrae does necessitate the need for a wipedown with a babywipe when he goes out to potty, since the curve in his spine causes his urine to get onto his front legs, but a quick wipe to his front legs, and he is off and running again. Gizmo walks well on a leash, although the arthritis in the back left hip sometimes causes him to lift that leg while running or playing. He is on a Glucosamine and Chondrotin medication for his arthritis. But don't let that fool you. Gizmo is as spunky and fun as they come, in a very small package. We prefer to place Gizmo in a home where he will not be left alone for long periods and with another small, friendly dog to play with. Although Gizmo gets along great with everyone, no young children please, due to his back and arthritis.

Name: Chewy
Breed/Mix: Coonhound mix
Sex/Age: Neutered male/ 11 years young
Personality/History:Chewy’s a senior citizen who is a bit set in his ways. He is very demanding of attention and will thrive in an adult-only home where he can get lots of love, but is allowed his “me” time when he’s feeling like he needs some solitude. Chewy already knows “sit” and “shake” and is housetrained. Being very food-motivated, Chewy’s training should be fairly easy for an experienced dog owner that knows how to take a firm, but gentle, lead with him. While he loves meeting new people, Chewy has a hard time being introduced to new dogs. He would very likely enjoy sharing a home with a female dog, but you can expect an exciting introduction! Name: Niblet
Breed/Mix: Lhasa Apso
Sex/Age: Neutered male/ 8.5 years young
Personality/History: Niblet is an 8 1/2 year old, spayed, female Lhasa Apso. She is a beautiful brindle color and will have quite a nice coat once her hair grows back in. She was brought to the shelter as a stray with extremely matted hair. (Please see her "before" picture.) Once she was groomed, we discovered that she had a broken back and was blind. We also found out what a beauty she is. Niblet has already been to the eye specialist and her eyes just need to be kept clean and to have ointment applied on a regular basis. Her back is another issue. An orthopedic specialist was amazed that she is doing so well. Because she is older and mellow the specialist hopes that she will continue to lead a happy and healthy life. I guess old age does have some perks! There is a chance that Niblet could become paralyzed if something re-injures her back or if scar tissue builds up and pinches her spine, at which time, surgery, though costly, would be possible. Currently Niblet occasionally takes prednisone, but otherwise appears quite comfortable. She is house trained and gets along with other mellow dogs. However, she may do best as an only dog because of her back. Niblet weighs approximately 15 pounds and enjoys being petted and going for care rides. This dog cannot be adopted out of state. Name:Natasha
Breed/Mix: Weimaraner
Sex/Age: Female / Senior
Personality/History: We are showing a photo of happier times with Natasha and Teddy who were recently returned (lifestyle change) after a 2 year placement. Natasha is thinner now, a bit fragile-looking. She has no health concerns other than a long-ago injury (before our involvement) which left her with a bit of a limp. Natasha adores gentle children, is well- housetrained and affectionate.

Name:Lei and Vanna
Breed/Mix: Dalmatians
Sex/Age: Female / Seniors
Personality/History: Lei & Vanna are lovely healthy sweet-tempered girls who have spent ten years together and cannot be separated. These girls need only basic home comforts. We'll consider a permanent foster for them.

Name:Mei Ling
Breed/Mix: Chow Chow
Sex/Age: Female/ 6 years young
Personality/History: Mei Ling with her military strut is a treasure. Fun-loving and funny, she loves best brushing (she knows she's beautiful). Mei Ling has been placed twice - both times, even though each was a superbly-qualified home, she was miserable. She hates being left alone and will chew moulding around the doors (any door) if not crate-confined in the house when alone. Unfortunately, she doesn't tolerate being alone outside either and will chew the moulding around the back door to attempt to get in. She does love our Rescue facility where there is continual activity. Have you an active home without children for our pretty girl?

Name: Jeff
Breed/Mix: Dalmatian
Sex/Age: Male/ 13 years young
Personality/History: JeWonderful personality. A clown who loves to make people laugh with his antics. Prefers to be the only dog. Fine with well-behaved children. Jeff is deaf in one ear. Jeff has been with us for most of his life. He's now almost 13 years old. Surely someone who reads this is able to give him a few years of normalcy? He is a good boy. He loves walks and tummy rubs. He'll bring you his food bowl at feeding time - and his blanket, clutched in his mouth, simply for attention. Please - he shouldn't have to live out his life in a Rescue facility . . . We're open to 'permanent fosters' with our seniors: you provide the happy-ever-after - we'll provide medical care, quality food, etc.

Name: Kodi
Breed/Mix: German Shepherd
Sex/Age: Neutered male/9 years young
Personality/History:This handsome big guy is Kodiak. Kodi to his friends... Kodi got his name because he is a big lovable bear. GSROC received dozens of calls and emails about a big, beautiful white German Shepherd in a very high kill shelter. As you can see from his pictures Kodi ADORES everyone. He gave kisses to the vet as he was being examined, as if to say "Thank you for helping me" He gave kisses to his rescuer and anyone else who came close enough. He was a huge hit with some small children in the vets waiting room and laid down to play with a 6 pound terrier.
Kodi could stand to lose a few pounds, and we are working on that. He is a love bug who is just looking for a quiet place to reside during his 'golden years'.Kodi is a very mellow guy and more football watching couch potato than jogging partner. Kodi will stay right by your side and just wants to please. Kodi loves to go for car rides and is a perfect gentleman while doing so. He is also a joy to walk. If you didn't see him on the other end, you wouldn't even know he was there, he stays perfectly by your side. He's got a little arthritis in his hips (but who doesn't?) but he doesn't let this slow him down too much.Kodi is about 8 years old and gets along with other large dogs as long as they are respectful of his seniority and not too bouncy. His ideal home would be with a retired person or couple who would shower him with the attention that he deserves. If you have room in your home and your heart for this very special big bubba boy, please call Shawn at 714/206-9002 or email at ShawnGSDRescue@aol.com Click here for an online application.

Name: Newey
Breed/Mix: Jack Russell Terrier
Sex/Age: Male/ 10 years young
Personality/History: This is Newey who is 10 years old and a real sweetheart. He is blind but can find his way fairly well by sounds like footsteps. He loves to go for walks on leash. He is impeccably housebroken. He also likes to sit with Jill when she is working at the computer. Jill thinks no young children just because of the blindness. He has memorized the locations of all her doors. He is a little guy who is a bit over weight and is not telling how much. As most of Jill's rescue dogs, he was dumped at a pound. He’s fine with other dogs even though having been beaten up by some. Currently Newey is living near San Diego, CA.

Name: Grainger
Breed/Mix: Labrador Retriever
Sex/Age: Male/ 7-10 years young
Personality/History: There's no place like home". I'm Grainger an older boy who hasn't had an easy life so far. I am blind and diabetic and don't understand how my family could abandon me at a shelter when I need them the most. But that nice rescue lady saw the light in my eyes and bounce in my spirit. So now I am safe and looking for new family that can love me for who I am. I am a sweet boy, desperately in need of love and affection. I am well-behaved and adapt well to my environment once I check out my digs. I don't know many commands and need to learn some leash walking skills, but I am smart and eager to learn. I am new to rescue, so I will be back to tell you more about me and the kind of care the nice rescue vets tell me I need. If you have a loving heart for a special needs boy, contact Lab Rescuers.

Name: Caitlin
Breed/Mix: Labrador Retriever
Sex/Age: Spayed female/ 9 years young
Personality/History:Hi my name is Caitlin I am living with my foster mommy. This is what I overheard her telling the Lab Rescuers people about me: "Caitlan, or Caty Lynn as I call her, is a lovely senior chocolate girl. We estimate her age at 9. She is the sweetest girl, gets along with all dogs and is very good with children. I have found her just sitting with my grand kids when they are here. She does not jump up on people so she could be with small children. Takes treats very gently. She does not dig in the yard nor chew on things. Only have heard her bark a couple of times. She likes to lay in the grass under the tree during the day and comes in during the evening. She likes to be where I am when she is in the house. Sleeps through the night and is house trained. Have not tested her with cats as I do not have any. I will see if I can "borrow" my neighbors cat to test with. But my feeling is that she would be ok with them. If you have a family looking for a sweet older female please think of Caty Lynn."

Name: Carter
Breed/Mix: Labrador Retriever
Sex/Age: Neutered male/ 10 years young
Personality/History:I'm Carter, a 10 year old lovebug that is looking for a new home. I'm a mellow guy that just loves to be loved and to give love. I'd love to spend all day hanging out with you around the house, watching tv with the family, or cuddling by the fireplace. I am housetrained and I don't chew or cause any trouble when left alone. I am great on leash, but since I am getting older, I'm a little wobbly and I stumble sometimes. No big deal - it doesn't bother me. I just pick myself up and keep my tail wagging! I'm not very interested in cats, and I'm gentle with kids too! My foster mom thinks that I'm an all-around great guy and that age is nothing but a number. After all, how can you resist my salt-and-pepper good looks and my laid-back personality?
Contact: Labrador Rescuers, doginfo@labrescuers.org

Name: Andy
Breed/Mix: Labrador Retriever
Sex/Age: Neutered male/ 8 years young
Personality/History:Andy is a sweet boy arrived to us from the South Shelter, who looks a bit older than his personality says he is. He has a sweet white face but as much spunk as a kid year old, but we're estimating his age around 8. With some good nutrition I think the years will roll back and he'll be a happy guy. Andy needs some TLC in a big way! His is very underweight and that malnourished life he's been living means is coat is not nearly as beautiful as it's going to be. It will be like soft gold when he's gotten some good meals for a while. He's fluffier than some labs and has a gorgeous face that will be drop dead handsome when he gets some meat on his thin frame! He rode like a gent in the car and loves people very much. He even crates well when he needed to be crated. He's been in a volunteer's home and did not have any accidents there over night and has not attempted to chew one thing. He dug a little tiny bit in a planter, and does worry if he's closed in a room away from people. But we don't blame him, he's confused, sad, and lonely. He clearly was not treated with near the amount of love and respect he deserves and desperately wants, yet he doesn't seem to be at all scared of people or loud noises and wants to lavish love on every person near him. He'll give you a big hug if you'll let him come cuddle with you! He has arthritis and some dysplasia but still moves like a younger pup when he wants to play! He can be nice and mellow too and patiently waited during his bath and even though his ears were a little infected he's let us doctor him up without any protesting at all. He has interacted well with some dogs but does not pair well with alpha males just yet, so we'll be determining if it would be good for him to be placed with other dogs - he wags nonstop at them and is so excited to go where they do, but when they roughhouse him he doesn't like it too much (hey would you if you had arthritis?!). He does bark and chase kitties the way most dogs were born to do...man he loves the game! He hasn't been tested too much with children, although did meet one politely. He doesn't jump up, and boy does he know his commands! If you ask hi to “sit”, “down” and “shake” he is very excited to show you what he knows! He has some arthritis from his rough early years but he's a pretty spunky boy ready for some play and love! He probably wouldn't make a good running companion but will enjoy nice walks and lots of attention. Would you like to foster Andy or adopt him to help him get some of the TLC he deserves? We would love to see him out of boarding and in a soft home where he can rest those arthritic joints of his. With some good food and TLC I’ll be he feel like a champ in no time. Please fill out an adoption or foster application if you would like to give Andy some kisses! If you would like to give Andy the loving home he so desperately wants, please complete and adoption application from the menu above. Thank you

Name: Clancy
Breed/Mix: Labrador Retriever
Sex/Age: Neutered male/ 8 years young
Personality/History:Smooth talking chocolate lover boy here. I'm Clancy and I ain't telling my age cause its a mystery. I act like a youngster in middle aged attire. I'm good lookin', strong and know how to work the crowd. When I saw the rescue lady at the shelter, I put on my pathetic show, pleading eyes, shaking, teeth chattering and full of woe; Hopped in the car and starting smiling at the wind flapping my ears. I'm quite lovable and bond quickly. While I haven't told my story yet, it looks like I've been a tad neglected of late and need some good lovin and a healthy meal. Since I just arrived here, more will be coming along soon about the kind of home I would like to live in. For now, no cats or small children until I'm properly introduced to them. Got a hankering for a hunk of chocolate?

Name: Samantha and Sabrina
Breed/Mix: Labrador Retriever
Sex/Age: Spayed females/ 8 years young
Personality/History:We just cast a spell on you! We're Sabrina and Samantha and we're a loving bonded pair of black labs. If you look deep in our eyes we'll bewitch you with our charming smiles and beautiful jet black coats. We were abandoned by our owner, but thank goodness we have each other and that Lab Rescue is willing to help us a home where we can always stay that way. We cry when we're apart, and if you take one of us too far away from the other we sure start to worry. But when we are side by side we wag our tails and smile. We don't really jump up on people, but our leash manners need a little work. We calmly cruise the dog park together, stopping to sniff other dogs here and there. We play fantastically with each other and are polite with other dogs...except we prefer big doggies to little ones...those little ones might look a little like cats so we bark at them! If you wanted to take us for a car ride all you'd have to do is open the door and with a twitch of our noses we'll be inside like magic! We ride nicely wherever we're going. We're mature enough that we know our manners, but basic commands aren't things anyone ever taught us. We're going to be pretty easy to incorporate into a new family, so maybe you'd like it to be yours! If you'd like to help us live in a nice warm foster home while we wait fo
